The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has carried out a joint security operation in Walawa community, Garin-Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, leading to multiple arrests and the confiscation of banned items.
The Commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza, confirmed the development on Monday, explaining that the raid was part of ongoing efforts to tackle activities considered immoral and harmful to societal values.
According to him, officers seized four truckloads of alcohol during the exercise and arrested 84 individuals — including 50 women and 34 men — allegedly involved in prostitution.
Dr. Hamza added that the houses linked to the activities had been sealed, while all suspects remain in custody pending prosecution under Yobe State laws.
Reaffirming the Commission’s mandate, he said Hisbah is committed to promoting morality in line with Islamic and cultural principles, combating social vices such as prostitution, alcoholism, gambling, and drug abuse, and safeguarding the dignity of women and children.
He also urged residents to support security agencies by remaining law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative.
