Nigerian Afrobeats star Yemi Alade has revealed that lying about her age for several years once led her into depression.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning singer said she spent three years claiming to be 22, only to later discover she was actually 25.
“There was a time someone asked me how old I was, and for about three years I kept saying 22. Then one day I calculated it and realised I was already 25,” Yemi said.

“I was depressed for a few days because my mind couldn’t process it. It was mental — for three years I didn’t know my age.”
The “Knack Am” crooner added that the experience taught her how easily self-deception can affect one’s mental health, describing the episode as a difficult but eye-opening phase in her life.
