United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has issued a clarification following reports of a fire outbreak at one of its Lagos Island branches on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses recounted moments of panic after flames broke out in a building on Broad Street where one of the bank’s branches is located. Videos shared online captured staff scrambling to safety, with some reportedly jumping from upper floors to escape the blaze.

In a statement, UBA confirmed the incident but dismissed speculation that its Marina head office was affected.

“The building involved is not UBA House at Marina, our head office, as suggested in some online reports. The safety of our staff and customers remains our top priority, and we have ensured their well-being,” the bank stated.

While the cause of the fire has yet to be established, the bank added that emergency services were promptly alerted and safety procedures activated to minimize risks.
