Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt Near Zuma Barracks, Rescue Two Victims in Gun Battle

Nigerian military personnel stationed near Zuma Barracks in Niger State successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued two victims following an early morning shootout with suspected bandits.

The incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, took place behind Zuma Rock, close to Chachi village in Tafa Local Government Area.

Details of the operation were shared by counter-insurgency expert and Lake Chad region security analyst, Zagazola Makama, via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.

Makama confirmed that the swift response of the troops at the checkpoint disrupted the attackers’ plans and led to the safe recovery of the abducted individuals.

Nigerian soldiers stationed at a checkpoint near Zuma Barracks in Niger State successfully repelled a kidnap operation in the early hours of Wednesday, rescuing two victims during a fierce exchange of gunfire with suspected bandits.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, shared details of the incident on Thursday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

According to Makama, the encounter occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. behind the iconic Zuma Rock, near Chachi village in Tafa Local Government Area.

Responding to distress reports and gunfire in the area, troops arrived at the scene to find a black 2008 Honda Accord (registration number KUR 395 AA) abandoned in a ditch, riddled with bullet holes along the front doors.

Upon confronting the armed assailants, the troops engaged them in a firefight, successfully preventing the abduction and rescuing the vehicle’s occupants—Samson Audu of Bakusa, Dei-Dei, and his partner, Joy Bassey.

Both individuals sustained injuries in the attack: Audu was shot in the right hand, while Bassey suffered a head wound. They were swiftly evacuated to Right Care Hospital in Dakwa, where medical personnel confirmed they are in stable condition and responding to treatment.
