Tinubu Arrives in Japan for Tokyo Conference

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Japan for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025.

His arrival was confirmed in a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the President was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, alongside senior Japanese officials.

Tinubu departed Abuja on Friday, accompanied by top government officials, including ministers and special advisers.

During the conference, the President is expected to participate in plenary sessions focused on Africa’s development priorities and hold bilateral engagements with world leaders. He will also meet with executives of major Japanese companies that have investments in Nigeria.

According to Onanuga, after concluding the TICAD9 summit, President Tinubu will head to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
