Tambuwal: I’ll Back Atiku Over Tinubu in 2027, Won’t Join APC
Senator Aminu Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South, has declared that he would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Friday night, the former Sokoto governor said Tinubu is not the same leader he once knew during the struggle for democracy.
“If Atiku is running and Bola Tinubu is, I will not support Tinubu. On Obi, if that situation presents itself, I will decide,” Tambuwal said.
The lawmaker also ruled out the possibility of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he does not share the ruling party’s vision for Nigeria.
“I will not join APC. It’s a personal decision, and I do not believe in the way the country is being run currently,” he stated.

Tambuwal recalled that during the 2023 election campaign, where he served as Director-General of Atiku’s campaign team, he had consistently warned Nigerians about the hardship that would follow under Tinubu’s leadership.
“I can’t say I’m disappointed because it was clear. He is appearing to be different from the Tinubu I knew in the past when we worked together.
I saw the way APC was driving Nigeria towards this crisis as far back as 2018, which was why I left in August of that year,” he added.
Tambuwal’s comments come as political discussions intensify around the 2027 elections, with opposition leaders weighing options to challenge the APC-led government.
