An aide to former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has dismissed reports linking his principal to an alleged coup plot, describing the claims as false, unfounded, and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sylva’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, said the former minister remains a committed democrat and strong supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The allegations are entirely false and malicious. Chief Timipre Sylva has no link to any coup plot. His record in politics and governance has been one of dialogue, peace, and democratic engagement,” Bokoru stated.

He alleged that the reports were part of a coordinated smear campaign orchestrated by political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections, aimed at tarnishing Sylva’s reputation.

Bokoru, however, confirmed that operatives suspected to be from the Defence Headquarters recently raided Sylva’s Abuja residence, resulting in significant property damage.
