Chairman of the Taraba State Sports Council, Barrister Jime Yongo, has commended the State House of Assembly and Governor Agbu Kefas for the passage and signing of the Sports Commission Bill into law.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Yongo described the move as a landmark achievement that would strengthen and professionalize the state’s sporting sector. “The unanimous backing from the House and Governor Kefas’ swift assent to the bill show a genuine commitment to the future of sports in Taraba,” he said.

He further praised Governor Kefas for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve, noting that the administration’s proactive approach to youth and sports development has revived the sector. “I am always ready to give my best to the growth of sports in Taraba. It’s a privilege to work under a governor who truly supports youth and sports,” Yongo added.

Highlighting Taraba’s growing visibility in national competitions such as the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta and the ongoing National Youth Games, Yongo said the state is regaining momentum in the sports arena.

However, he stressed that government efforts alone are not enough to sustain progress. He urged private companies and non-governmental organizations to invest in grassroots initiatives and sponsor sporting activities across the state.

Reaffirming the Sports Council’s dedication to advancing the sector, Yongo called for stronger partnerships among stakeholders to unlock the full potential of Taraba’s youth through consistent investment and well-structured programs.
