Nigerian singer Shallipopi has stirred conversation online after advising men to steer clear of romantic relationships, which he described as a “financial trap.”

In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the artist argued that both relationships and marriage could become heavy financial burdens, particularly for men from humble backgrounds.

Shallipopi urged young men to focus on living within their means rather than taking on obligations they cannot sustain. He went further to label marriage as a “financial mistake” for anyone not among Africa’s wealthiest families.

According to him, a more sustainable option is to remain single and avoid unnecessary financial pressures. “The biggest financial mistake, when you and your papa nor dey the Top 10 list of richest people in Africa, you go cry bro. OS na financial mistake, Girlfriend na financial mistake, stay celibate,” he posted.

His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions, with some fans supporting his cautionary take and others criticizing it as extreme.
