Just two days after by-elections were held across 59 wards in Edo State, the acting chairmen of all 18 local government councils have been replaced by newly elected councillors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The shake-up follows by-elections conducted by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC). Until their removal, the acting chairmen had originally been councillors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in September 2023. They rose to the position of council heads after the state House of Assembly suspended all 18 elected local government chairmen and their deputies in December 2024.
