Akwa Ibom Police Uncover Student-Led Criminal Gang Involved in Cybercrime, Rape, and Extortion

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has revealed that a network of expelled students and school dropouts has formed criminal gangs responsible for a string of illicit activities, including cybercrime, rape, and extortion.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the arrests followed actionable intelligence that pointed to the group’s operations within the state. She noted that these individuals had been posing a significant threat to public safety.

During the raid, law enforcement recovered several items linked to the gang’s activities: an English Beretta pistol with three live 9mm rounds, a laptop, two Android phones, an MTN internet router, a mix of suspected drug concoctions, and three power-of-attorney documents believed to be stolen.

Preliminary findings indicate that the gang is led by two key figures—Etieno Gideon James and another suspect known only by the alias “Ale”—both of whom remain at large.

DSP John confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that efforts are underway to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.
