Omoni Oboli: Divorce Was Never an Option

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the foundation of her enduring 24-year marriage to Nnamdi Oboli, revealing that their success began with a firm decision made even before their wedding.

In an interview with media host Chude Jideonwo, Omoni shared that she and her husband agreed early on to eliminate divorce as an option. “Being married for over two decades starts with a choice,” she explained. “Before we even got married, we agreed that divorce would never be on the table.”

She credited that unwavering commitment as a major factor in weathering the ups and downs of their relationship, including a particularly challenging first year of marriage.

As a mother of three, Omoni also highlighted the power of forgiveness in sustaining a healthy union. She noted that a willingness to let go of grievances has helped them resolve conflicts and grow stronger as a couple. “If you really want to forgive, there’s almost nothing you can’t forgive,” she said. “We have to understand that we’re all flawed.”

Omoni described their romance as anything but conventional—Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and the couple tied the knot four months later. Though she admitted to being young and uncertain at the time, she was drawn in by the sincerity of his love.

Nnamdi Oboli, in his own reflection, offered guidance to younger couples. He emphasized that marriage requires intentional effort. “It’s a responsibility,” he said. “You don’t enter a marriage expecting it to magically succeed. It’s a relationship between two people—you have to actively make it work.”
