The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has emerged victorious in the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election conducted on Saturday.
Announcing the outcome at the INEC collation centre in Bagwai on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Professor Hassan Adamu Shitu, declared NNPP’s candidate, Ali Lawal Al-Hassan, winner with 16,198 votes.
He defeated Abdullahi Ahmed Muhammed of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 5,347 votes, while Suleiman Muhammad Lawan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finished third with 159 votes.

In total, candidates from 11 political parties participated in the election.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Hallilu Kundila, the APC lawmaker who previously represented the constituency in the State Assembly.
