NCDC Confirms 13 New Lassa Fever Cases, 4 Deaths

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed 13 new cases of Lassa fever in the country within epidemiological week 40, covering September 29 to October 5, 2025.

The agency disclosed this in its latest situation report posted on its verified X handle on Wednesday, indicating that the new infections were recorded in Ondo and Edo States, two of the most affected areas since the beginning of the year.

According to the report, Nigeria has so far recorded 924 confirmed cases and 172 deaths across 21 states and 106 Local Government Areas in 2025.

The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) now stands at 18.6 percent, up from 17.0 percent reported during the same period in 2024.

The NCDC added that 117 new suspected cases were reported within the week, bringing the total suspected cases this year to 8,041.

It further noted that more than 90 percent of confirmed cases were reported from Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi States, which remain the epicentres of the outbreak.

The health agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surveillance, laboratory testing, risk communication, and infection prevention and control efforts nationwide to limit further spread of the disease.
