Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to step up its investigation into the controversial death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad.

Speaking in a video shared on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, Naira Marley maintained his innocence and urged the authorities to re-arrest himself, his associate Samson Balogun (aka Samlarry), and others earlier accused in the case, stressing that a credible and trustworthy officer should oversee the investigation this time.

“I returned to Nigeria to clear my name because I saw fingers pointing in my direction,” he said. “I was detained at Panti for two months, even though I hadn’t seen Mohbad in over a year. There was a conspiracy to keep me there. If you ask me, I will say the police should arrest everyone again and assign the case to an officer people can trust.”

Naira Marley also disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Mohbad’s legal representatives to transfer the late singer’s royalties to whichever member of his family the court designates as the rightful custodian of his estate.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that sparked nationwide outrage. His former record label boss, Naira Marley, alongside Samlarry, was arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, before being released on bail after two months.

Other individuals linked to the case included Mohbad’s close friend Owodunni Ibrahim (Prime Boy)—who denied claims of fighting the singer before his death—and Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered the injection allegedly connected to Mohbad’s demise.

Following separate autopsies conducted by two independent pathologists, the Lagos State Coroner’s Court ruled that the advanced decomposition of Mohbad’s body made it impossible to establish a definitive cause of death. Magistrate C.A. Shotobi concluded that while there was no evidence of foul play, the tragedy pointed to medical negligence.

The court has since directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe over her role in the incident.
