MTN’s journey toward 5G deployment began in 2022 with the acquisition of a license from the Nigerian Communications Commission. In 2023, the company transitioned into pilot testing and began major investments in infrastructure. By 2024, 5G coverage had reached major urban centers and commercial districts. Looking ahead to 2025, MTN aims to broaden coverage to underserved communities while strengthening partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and regulatory bodies.

In addition to discussing the broader 5G deployment, Njideka Jack highlighted the transformative potential of private 5G networks for Nigerian businesses. These dedicated networks, known for their secure, ultra-fast, and low-latency connectivity, are gaining traction across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and education.

The summit’s overall theme echoed the urgency of accelerating Africa’s digital evolution. Through a series of panels and breakout discussions, speakers explored a range of pressing topics—including mobile-first design strategies, evolving regulatory landscapes, the rise of artificial intelligence in media production, and the complex realities of financing early-stage tech ventures in Africa.

Representatives from companies like Jumia, Stears, and various local startups shared insights into the challenges and breakthroughs in scaling tech solutions tailored for the African market.

Conversations also centered on how businesses are responding to shifting consumer expectations and navigating infrastructure bottlenecks. Additional sessions emphasized the growing relevance of homegrown tech policies, the push for increased local investment, and the importance of building platforms that empower creators and small enterprises to compete globally.
