The Benue State House of Assembly has once again amended the law guiding the name of the state-owned university in Makurdi, settling on a shorter and more straightforward title.
Following Thursday’s plenary session, the institution will now officially be known as Father Adasu University, Makurdi, replacing the longer Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.
Presenting the report of the House Committee on Higher Education, Majority Leader Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa) argued that the previous name was unnecessarily cumbersome.
The university, originally established as Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, was first renamed in December 2024 before this latest change.

Speaker Alfred Emberga directed the House Clerk, Dr. Bem Mela, to read the bills for a third time, after which they were formally passed.
