Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has clarified that the 2009 Federal Government–ASUU agreement remains valid and legally enforceable, retracting an earlier statement that no such agreement existed.
In a statement issued on Friday, Alausa explained that the agreement is still binding as of now, despite his comments to journalists in Abuja on Thursday suggesting otherwise.

The minister had initially described ASUU’s reference to the agreement as a mere draft with no formal signing — a position the union swiftly rejected.
Alausa further noted that while the 2009 and 2011 negotiations produced recommendations that shaped the pact, the documents remain the framework upon which the government and ASUU continue to engage.
