Marketers: Dangote’s 4,000 Trucks Can’t Fuel the Nation

Oil marketers have argued that Dangote Refinery’s newly introduced fleet of CNG-powered trucks will not be sufficient to meet Nigeria’s nationwide demand for petroleum product distribution.

Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harry, stressed that existing investments by marketers in the downstream sector must not be overlooked.

“All we are asking for is inclusion,” Gillis-Harry said. “There’s no way Dangote’s trucks alone can deliver fuel to every corner of the country. We too are investing in CNG trucks, so it is not entirely a new innovation. What matters is ensuring reliable supply even to remote areas where Dangote’s trucks may not reach.”

He emphasized that retail outlet owners, being the final link in the distribution chain, must have access to products from all depots nationwide. “We want Dangote Refinery to succeed, but we also want a system where everyone’s contribution is recognized,” he added.

His remarks come shortly after billionaire businessman Femi Otedola advised members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) to restructure, sell off idle assets, or reinvest in facilities like the Port Harcourt refinery in order to remain competitive in the evolving energy landscape.
