The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rolled out the use of drone technology to boost traffic monitoring and enhance security surveillance across the state, marking a transition from traditional manual enforcement to advanced digital intelligence systems.
At the official unveiling, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the drones would deliver real-time aerial coverage of key traffic corridors, enabling quicker interventions during congestion, accidents, or emergencies.
“This initiative goes beyond deploying new tools—it’s about reshaping traffic management through digital governance. With live aerial oversight, we can act faster, strengthen safety, improve emergency coordination, enhance security, and encourage more disciplined driving habits,” Bakare-Oki noted.

The drones will be used for aerial reconnaissance and high-definition monitoring, giving officers the ability to respond proactively rather than relying solely on ground patrols.
Bakare-Oki emphasized that the deployment will adhere to strict ethical and regulatory standards to safeguard public trust. He assured residents that the system would fully comply with privacy protections and legal frameworks, ensuring transparency and accountability.
According to the agency, the drone program will complement LASTMA’s toll-free hotline, providing faster responses to road emergencies and accident management.
Authorities added that the initiative forms part of wider efforts to improve traffic flow, cut travel time, reduce accidents, and instill greater discipline on Lagos roads.
