Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has described Lagos State as a “no-man’s land.”

Speaking on Monday, Bwala argued that the outcome of the 2023 elections proved Lagos to be a cosmopolitan state, noting that President Tinubu, despite being from the Southwest, did not win in the state.

He was reacting to a report that ₦2.9 trillion had been spent on federal projects in Lagos. According to him, the state’s diversity makes it unique in Nigeria.

“Lagos is different. It is a no-man’s land. In the last election, the president, who comes from the Southwest, did not win Lagos. That alone reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the state,” Bwala said.

He further pointed out that many of Nigeria’s wealthiest individuals, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, operate their businesses in Lagos rather than in their home regions.

“Almost every major business owner in Nigeria has investments in Lagos. If not for the fact that the majority of the population are Yoruba-speaking, you might even question whether Lagos truly belongs to the Southwest,” he added.
