Airtel’s network mast 614 in the Osin-Okete area of Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State, was engulfed by fire on Monday afternoon.
The blaze, which broke out around 1:27 p.m., was confirmed in a statement by the spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle.
According to the report, fire crews arrived promptly at the scene and immediately began emergency operations. On arrival, they discovered the mast already in flames, with a generator at the site also affected.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighters, the damage was contained, preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the mast and nearby equipment. The situation was brought under control by 2:04 p.m.
The statement further revealed that preliminary findings are underway, with the exact cause of the fire to be determined after a full investigation.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commended the quick intervention of the crew and urged both the public and facility managers to prioritize electrical and fuel safety. He also encouraged immediate reporting of emergencies to help minimize risks and losses.
