Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has accused the outgoing Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, of using the commission’s recognition of the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC as a farewell jab at President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kachikwu claimed Yakubu deliberately took the decision to embarrass the president, despite pending court cases involving the party.
“I knew that as he was leaving, he was going to give the President a big middle finger,” Kachikwu alleged. “That’s exactly what he did—waited a few weeks before leaving to show his displeasure.”

Kachikwu criticised Yakubu as one of Nigeria’s “worst mistakes”, insisting he never had faith in the INEC chairman’s ability to manage the matter fairly. He, however, expressed confidence that the judiciary would eventually resolve the leadership tussle.
He lamented that the ADC had become the casualty of what he described as a political power play. “Unfortunately, my party, a party of Nigerians trying to rebuild the country, is the victim. When two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers,” he said.
INEC had on Thursday published the names of the David Mark-led NWC as the recognised leadership of the ADC, sparking criticism from rival factions.
