The Abia Renaissance Group (ARG) has cautioned Governor Alex Otti against making statements or taking actions that could escalate political tension in the state.
The group urged security agencies to ensure peace, tolerance, and protection of citizens’ rights as Abia enters a crucial political season.
In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Kelechi Uwakwe and Secretary Emma Nwangwu, the group expressed concern over the increasing use of inflammatory language in the state’s political space, warning that unchecked rhetoric could deepen fear and division among residents.
The ARG called on political leaders, including Governor Otti and other stakeholders, to exercise restraint and lead by example by promoting peaceful engagement and respect for differing opinions.
“Abia has enjoyed a reputation for peace and political tolerance. It is important that all actors uphold this legacy by ensuring that their public statements and actions foster unity rather than fear,” the group stated.

The group also appealed to security agencies to remain vigilant, investigate any incidents of intimidation or harassment, and ensure that the political environment remains open, inclusive, and safe for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“We are confident that the relevant authorities — the Nigeria Police, the DSS, and the Office of the National Security Adviser — will take all necessary steps to maintain law and order, prevent escalation of tension, and guarantee equal protection for every Abian.
We call on all security agencies to rise to the occasion and ensure that no one, including Governor Otti, is above the law. Abia belongs to all, not to a single man or party,” the statement added.
The ARG reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at sustaining peace, justice, and democratic governance in Abia State.
