Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has launched a bold push to boost agriculture, distributing 59,205 bags of fertiliser to farmers across the state.
Kicking off the 2025 wet season farming on Wednesday, Lawal also unveiled the newly built Fadama House at the Ministry of Agriculture in Gusau.
Governor Lawal’s latest agriculture drive powers food production and strengthens Zamfara’s rural economy, where farming sustains over 80% of the population.
According to his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, 98 trucks loaded with fertiliser are headed to farmers, along with 34,800 kg of rice seeds, 80,000 kg of maize seeds, 23,740 litres of herbicides, 11,735 litres of insecticides, and 23,470 sachets of seed treatment.
At the launch event, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Zamfara through sustainable agriculture and rural growth.
“Farming is our pride,” he declared, stressing that agriculture is not just an economic sector but the identity of the people. With over 85% of the population depending on it, he emphasized a moral duty to empower farmers.
Lawal described agriculture as a key driver of food security, jobs, and inclusive growth—part of his broader transformation plan aligned with SDG 2 to end hunger and promote sustainability.

At the launch in Gusau, Lawal also unveiled the new Fadama House, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to agriculture as the backbone of Zamfara’s economy. With more than 80% of the population relying on farming, he called agriculture “the identity of our people,” underscoring his government’s motto: Farming is Our Pride.
The distribution includes 98 fertiliser trucks, 34,800 kg of rice seeds, 80,000 kg of maize seeds, and thousands of litres of herbicides, insecticides, and seed treatments.
Lawal said the initiative aligns with his long-term agricultural transformation plan and global SDG targets to end hunger, promote sustainable farming, and drive inclusive economic growth—despite climate challenges and delayed rains.

Lawal emphasized his administration’s guiding mantra: “Farming is Our Pride.” He described agriculture as a tool for economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction—central to his long-term transformation agenda aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Despite climate challenges and a delayed rainy season, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support farmers with tools, technology, and transparent systems—including digitised input distribution to block diversion.
Lawal also urged farmers not to sell the inputs but to use them to build a better future:
“These are not for trade. They are investments in your future and the future of Zamfara.”
He concluded by officially launching the programme, which will benefit over 59,000 smallholder farmers across the state.
