The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, has announced the immediate suspension of all activities of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Bida Chapter.
Registrar of the institution, Hussaini Enagi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the decision followed heightened tension on campus and worrisome security reports linked to the union’s activities.

The development comes after ASUP-Bida issued a directive to its members to resume a previously suspended strike over unpaid allowances. The union had accused management of failing to settle six months out of an alleged 18-month backlog of Excess Workload Allowances.
In its notice to members, ASUP insisted the industrial action was a collective mandate of the congress, urging lecturers to remain “steadfast and undeterred,” while describing their demands as legitimate and protected under labour laws.
However, Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Baba Haruna, cautioned the union to respect the rights of staff who may not support the strike, emphasizing that dissenting voices should not be coerced into compliance.
