Atiku Clarifies: No Yoruba-Only Promise for 2027

The media team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked claims that he vowed to prioritize Yoruba interests if elected president in 2027.

The denial comes after reports on Wednesday alleged that Atiku made the promise in a statement credited to one Kola Johnson, introduced as his “media consultant.”

But in a statement issued Thursday, Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, dismissed the story as false and misleading, stressing that the former presidential candidate has never employed Johnson in any capacity.

“Our findings point directly to the Presidency, which, in its desperation to smear opposition leaders, has resorted to hiring faceless mercenaries to fabricate fake stories and circulate unauthorized statements on Atiku,” Ibe alleged.

He described the claim that an Atiku-led government would favor one ethnic group as “particularly offensive,” insisting it was part of a broader propaganda strategy.

Ibe emphasized that only statements released through the Atiku Media Office—signed by himself or the former vice president’s public communications aide—should be regarded as authentic.

He urged Nigerians and the press to remain vigilant against disinformation, accusing the Tinubu administration of orchestrating fabricated narratives aimed at discrediting opposition figures.
