The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) branch, has commenced an indefinite strike to protest non-payment of lecturers’ salaries.

The decision was conveyed in a letter to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, on Thursday. The letter, signed by the branch Chairman, Dr. O.A. Fagbuagun, and Financial Secretary, Mr. Ngwu Benitho, stressed that academic activities would remain suspended until all affected staff were paid.

The union said its action was in line with a resolution of the ASUU National Executive Council (NEC), which directs branches to halt lectures if members’ salaries are not settled by the third day of a new month.

“In compliance with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has embarked on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended once salaries are paid,” the statement read.
