APC, PDP face heat for sidelining North — Scholar

Political scholar Prof. K’tso Nghargbu has cautioned that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risk losing the 2027 presidential election if they continue to sideline the North—particularly the North Central region.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Prof. Nghargbu, who leads a coalition of North Central stakeholders advocating for power rotation, criticized the APC for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate, and faulted the PDP for zoning its ticket to the South.

He warned that such moves could backfire politically, adding that if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or another major party fields a northern candidate, it could alter the outcome of the polls.

According to him, the North Central has consistently played a vital role in Nigeria’s development but has never produced a civilian president since independence in 1960.

“Any party that denies the North, especially the North Central, a chance at the presidency should forget about our votes,” he declared. “This is about fairness and justice. A region that has been shut out of leadership for decades deserves an opportunity.”

Prof. Nghargbu further argued that a united northern bloc, rallying behind a candidate from the region, could give the ADC or another party a real shot at victory in 2027.
