APC Hits Back at Babachir Lawal Over Criticism of Tinubu, Labels Him a ‘Fair-Weather Friend’
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong rebuttal to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, following his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the ruling party claimed Babachir’s attacks stem from disappointment over not being chosen as vice president. According to the APC, Tinubu opted for a “better, more qualified, and more refined” candidate instead.
The party described the former SGF as “the latest political content creator and soothsayer gasping for political oxygen,” adding that his recent television appearance on Monday was his most “incoherent and desperate” yet.

“That outing revealed a deeply troubled soul, slowly unraveling… wearing ideological inconsistency like a badge of honor,” the APC wrote.
It accused Babachir of attempting to bait President Tinubu with “a poorly scripted” performance, noting the irony of him once declaring that the “wrath of God” should fall on anyone who blocked Tinubu’s path to the presidency, only to now insult and disrespect him.
“That says everything about Babachir’s character and upbringing — a fair-weather friend, an opportunist, clout chaser, and clay-footed political crusader,” the statement continued.
While advising him to “retrace his steps,” the APC warned Babachir to desist from denigrating the president and his office, stressing that his televised remarks would not restore his political relevance but only remind Nigerians why he is “no longer in office and fast sinking into political and community oblivion.”
The exchange follows Babachir’s claim that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi actually won the 2023 elections — a position the APC dismissed as “a barefaced lie.” The party maintained that Tinubu was duly elected, the results upheld by the courts, and will remain in office until 2027.
