APC Chieftain to Opposition: Don’t Blackmail Tinubu with EFCC

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged opposition politicians not to turn ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into a political weapon against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye stressed that the anti-graft agency’s probe of former governors and political appointees, based on petitions submitted against them, was a constitutional responsibility carried out in line with global standards.

He explained that membership of an opposition party does not grant immunity from investigation when credible allegations of financial misconduct exist, noting that members of the ruling party also face EFCC scrutiny whenever petitions are filed against them.

“The EFCC is mandated by law to investigate financial irregularities involving public officials, regardless of political affiliation. Trying to drag the President into such matters for political gain is both unfair and misleading,” he said.

Oyintiloye advised opposition figures currently under investigation to concentrate on clearing their names instead of resorting to what he described as blackmail tactics against the President.

He added that neither Tinubu nor the EFCC would be distracted by accusations of political witch-hunting, insisting that the fight against corruption under the current administration would be pursued without favoritism.

“Whether in the ruling party or the opposition, no one is exempt from accountability,” he stated. “President Tinubu is a man of integrity, committed to fairness and justice. Attempts to shield corrupt politicians under the guise of opposition politics will not succeed. The era of using politics as a cover for graft is over.”
