The Malam-Audu Bridge, a major transportation link between Pantisawa in Yorro Local Government Area and Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, collapsed on Thursday, stranding hundreds of commuters and pedestrians on both sides.
The collapse, attributed to several hours of heavy rainfall, has severely disrupted movement along the busy route, forcing travellers to take much longer detours to reach their destinations.
Eyewitnesses said the structure gave way without warning. While no casualties had been reported as of press time, the incident has heightened concerns among residents over the state of infrastructure in the area.
Locals recalled that the Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area suffered a similar fate last year and has yet to be repaired. They urged the government to act swiftly to prevent further isolation of communities.

“We are calling on the government to take this seriously because we have been cut off from the state capital and other parts of Taraba,” said resident Mallam Saliu.
Other community members warned that the collapse would hurt the economy of Taraba North and the state at large, stressing that authorities must not treat the matter lightly.
The incident underscores ongoing infrastructure challenges in the state, coming just one year after the Namnai Bridge collapse.
