The Young Progressives Party (YPP) senatorial candidate in Anambra State, Oforbuike Okoli-Egbo, has expressed concern over widespread vote-buying during Saturday’s by-election in the state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, Okoli-Egbo alleged that voters were offered between ₦15,000 and ₦20,000 each to influence their choices at the polls.

He described the development as a serious setback for Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that it undermined the credibility of the electoral process and marked a clear departure from past elections in Anambra.
“What happened in Anambra was a heavily financially induced election,” he said. “It has never been heard of before that voters receive over ₦15,000 to ₦20,000 just to cast a ballot. That was the reality, with inducement coming mainly from APGA and APC,” he alleged.
Despite his concerns, Okoli-Egbo maintained that the YPP remains a strong political force in the state, pointing to its previous electoral successes as evidence of its grassroots support.
