The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, has commended PDP governorship candidate Agboola Ajayi for voluntarily withdrawing his appeal at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ajulo described Ajayi’s action as patriotic and statesmanlike, highlighting that it demonstrated maturity and a dedication to peace and democratic stability. The Attorney General confirmed receipt of Ajayi’s letter, dated September 16, 2025, addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, formally discontinuing Appeal No. SC/CV/757/2025 – Mr. Ajayi Alfred Agboola & Anor v. Independent National Electoral Commission & 3 Ors.
Ajulo noted that Ajayi’s decision prioritizes the collective interests of Ondo State over partisan politics, strengthening democratic institutions and promoting political harmony. “I commend this patriotic gesture and place on record our appreciation for the maturity, statesmanship, and commitment to peace displayed by Hon. Agboola Ajayi,” he said.

The Attorney General emphasized that the withdrawal affirms the overwhelming mandate secured by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in the November 16, 2024, governorship election, where Aiyedatiwa became the first candidate in Ondo State’s history to win across all 18 local government areas. Ajulo further noted that Ajayi’s action sets a historic precedent, marking the first time an election dispute in the state was not pursued to the very end in court.
Reflecting on his earlier calls for Ajayi to end what he described as “endless litigation,” Ajulo said the decision validated his position. He also expressed gratitude to PDP leaders, especially Chief Eddy Olafeso, for supporting the reconciliation process.
On behalf of the state government and people of Ondo, Ajulo extended “profound appreciation” to Ajayi, describing the move as one that would further consolidate peace, unity, and collective progress across political divides.
