The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday admitted that it was not perfect, but said the opposition All Progressives Congress was not a better option.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, said this in Abuja on Tuesday when the PDP forum of zonal publicity secretaries paid a courtesy visit to the party’s secretariat.

Metuh said that most of the utterances of the leaders of the APC were aimed at heating up the polity and that the PDP was happy that the opposition had learnt its lessons.

He  said,  “Like in democratic setting, no one is perfect, the PDP is not perfect; yes, Nigerians expect us to be better than we are, but Nigerians truly know that our competitor is not an option.

“The fact that some of these insurgents have been financed by people who were encouraged by the hard stance, utterances, statements made by these opposition leaders when as statesmen we don’t expect them to speak in pursuance of their personal interest.

“We are happy today that they have chosen the path of wisdom to temper their voice, they have heeded our call; I think our statement was positive in the sense that they have moderated the views and utterances of the opposition leaders. We are happy we did that, the party stands by that statement and have had profound effect on the body polity.”

He added, “The statements of the opposition always are as ugly as their look and their actions, they are product of frustration, resentment against their creator, because anybody that is happy with himself, a fulfilled human being will be cautious in his statements and the way he insults others.

“Our mantra is that power to the people in a democratic setting, it is not one man that chooses his successor, or chooses the people that will contest election.”

He insisted that in the midst of security challenges governance must go on, saying that President Goodluck Jonathan had been able to keep a level playing field as exemplified by the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum on Africa.

“Never in the history of this country have we had such challenges come at a very critical time of our development, we are saddened by the abduction of the girls of Government Secondary School in Chibok,” he said, adding that the PDP would never play politics with human lives.

The PDP South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ali Odeifa, had earlier pledged the loyalty of the forum to Jonathan; National Chairman of the party,  Adamu Mu’azu; and the National Working Committee of the party
