Nigerian rapper Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, has voiced strong disapproval of polygamy, describing it as a practice that causes emotional harm to women and children.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM Lagos, the “Motivation” crooner shared personal insights from his upbringing in a polygamous home, noting that his experience shaped his decision to embrace monogamy.
“I am trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; one person gets hurt, which is the woman. There’s never a polygamous situation where the man gets hurt; it’s always the woman and the kids,” Erigga said.

The Warri-born rapper explained that polygamous unions often breed resentment, jealousy, and emotional imbalance among family members, leading to long-term trauma, especially for children.
Erigga added that monogamy offers a healthier and more stable family structure, free from the complications that often arise in polygamous settings.
“Polygamy is too complex. Monogamy is less complicated and more fulfilling for everyone involved,” he stated.
Erigga’s comments have sparked conversation among fans on social media, with many applauding his honesty and others debating whether polygamy can ever truly be fair or balanced.
