Cardoso Heads Nigeria’s Delegation, Uzoka-Anete Left Out – Edun
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., following the illness of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
The development was confirmed on Sunday by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who announced that Cardoso would head the delegation in place of Edun.
Notably, the decision effectively bypassed the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anete, who would typically assume leadership of the delegation in line with protocol.
“Mr Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in Washington DC, which opens on Monday, October 13. Cardoso, as the alternate governor, replaces the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, who is indisposed,” Onanuga stated.

He added that Uzoka-Anete will be part of the delegation alongside other senior officials.
The decision comes amid reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had considered replacing Edun after he reportedly suffered a stroke and was flown abroad.
However, the Presidency dismissed those claims, clarifying that Edun is receiving medical treatment in Nigeria and has not been replaced.
