Human rights activist Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has urged the Delta State Government, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to immediately investigate the killing of a woman by an angry mob in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The woman was reportedly set ablaze on Wednesday, September 13, after being suspected of attempting to steal a seven-year-old child.
In a statement sent from Warri, Agberen called for those responsible to be arrested and brought to justice. He noted that the call comes after the deceased’s husband and children visited the Ughelli North Council Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Jaro Egbo, to report the incident.

Agberen condemned the actions of the mob, stressing that no individual or group has the right to take another person’s life based on suspicion. He highlighted the traumatic impact on the children who witnessed the brutal act and warned that such incidents erode public trust in the justice system.
He further described mob violence as a major threat to the right to life in Nigeria and called for stronger law enforcement, public education, and judicial reforms.
Agberen emphasised that a reliable legal and security system is the only solution to ending jungle justice and mob violence, urging authorities to uphold justice, rule of law, and human rights for all.
