Local authorities in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State have reached a peace agreement with bandit leaders terrorizing the region.
According to sources, the accord was sealed on Sunday during a meeting convened by ward, village, and district heads in collaboration with officials of the Dutsinma council.
Dutsinma, one of the areas worst hit by banditry in recent years, has suffered hundreds of deaths, thousands of abductions, and massive property losses.
The peace deal was finalized at Kamar Rogo, on the fringes of the Rugu Forest along the Dutsinma–Tsaskiya road.
Three notorious bandit leaders — Mo Nore (Danmusa LGA), Adamu Alieru (Tsafe, Zamfara State), and Mohodinge (Safana LGA) — attended the meeting with over 100 armed fighters. Together, they reportedly command more than 500 fighters and hundreds of sophisticated weapons.

“The leaders arrived with over 100 armed men to present their terms for the peace accord,” a source explained.
The bandits pledged to suspend attacks and release captives if their detained members are freed unconditionally. Mo Nore, however, warned that “total peace should not be expected immediately,” citing past failed peace initiatives in other LGAs.
On their part, the District Head of Dutsinma and the Council Chairman, Kabir Abdulsalam, promised a genuine reconciliation process. They pledged support for the rehabilitation and reintegration of repentant fighters, while also addressing demands such as restoring cattle routes, grazing reserves, and other basic needs.
Abdulsalam assured the bandit leaders that their demands would be reviewed and fulfilled in line with the peace accord.
