A key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Abraham Stephen Ajiya, has officially dumped the opposition party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), blaming persistent internal wrangling and poor leadership within the PDP.
Ajiya, who contested the North Central Vice-Chairmanship position in the PDP’s controversial zonal election, made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
He explained that his defection came after wide consultations and a need to join a platform he believes will give him the opportunity to serve the people of the FCT more effectively.
“For those wondering why I took this step, the truth is that my journey with the PDP has neither been cordial nor promising for a young and upcoming politician like me,” he said.

Ajiya recounted his frustrations with the party, alleging that PDP leaders manipulated the Jos zonal election process and pressured him to step aside for what he described as “a less qualified candidate.” His refusal, he noted, led to marginalisation, prompting him to seek legal redress—an effort he said was futile.
“The entire exercise was predetermined. The appeal panel sat immediately after the election and gave its verdict the same day, without my knowledge. This is unheard of,” he lamented.
According to him, leaving the PDP was the only way to safeguard his political career. “After careful reflection and consultation, I realized it was necessary to find new ground. I see the APC as a more viable platform to pursue my vision for the FCT,” Ajiya stated.
