I Beat the Recall – Natasha on Suspension

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has described her recent challenges in the National Assembly as a test of strength, insisting that no amount of political intimidation or blackmail will silence her.

Speaking on Tuesday at the reopening of her office, Akpoti-Uduaghan reflected on what she called “six months of survival,” during which she endured suspension, a recall attempt, and various acts of harassment.

“We survived the recall. We survived the blockade of roads and waterways to Kogi that forced us to fly in by helicopter. We survived the blackmail from a so-called woman on Facebook. It’s amazing what we had to go through,” she recounted.

The senator expressed gratitude to her constituents, family, and supporters nationwide for standing by her, singling out her husband for his unwavering support. “I pray all men support their wives as much as you have supported me,” she said.

She accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of treating her like a subordinate rather than an equal, describing his leadership style as “dictatorial and unacceptable.” “Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am. He is not the governor of this place, yet he treated me as if I were his servant or domestic staff,” she declared.

Despite her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she remained focused on serving her constituency by pushing for infrastructure, projects, and job opportunities.

She also acknowledged the support of political leaders, civil society organizations, and professional groups that stood with her during the standoff, including Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki, the Labour Party, ADC, PDP, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the Nigeria Labour Congress. According to her, their collective pressure played a key role in compelling Senate leadership to ease its stance.
