Jigawa Governor Seeks Global Partnerships to Boost Agriculture, Food Security
Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has restated his government’s commitment to harnessing international collaborations to modernize agriculture and strengthen food security in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, during Namadi’s visit to Senegal for the Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar.
Leading a high-powered delegation, Namadi said the summit provides an opportunity for Jigawa to deepen partnerships that can transform its food systems and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
He emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, built on the vision of creating “a Greater Jigawa.”
“Jigawa is already Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower,” the governor noted. “We will continue to build on these achievements and unlock the full potential of our vast arable land and hardworking farming communities.”
During the summit, Namadi held talks with Hailemariam Dessalegn, Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), to explore new areas of collaboration. Their discussions centered on practical strategies to increase productivity, expand market access, and improve the competitiveness of rice and wheat farmers.
The four-day summit, which runs from September 1 to 4, 2025, is bringing together African leaders, development partners, and private sector players to design pathways for building resilient and sustainable food systems across the continent.
