A fresh wave of bandit attacks has gripped Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, leaving at least five people dead and resulting in the abduction of Islamic clerics as well as the district head of Rinaye.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assaults stretched across three consecutive days, with armed men storming multiple villages, killing residents, and taking others hostage. In Rinaye town alone, three people were confirmed dead, while the district head and several clerics were whisked away.

The violence has forced residents of more than 10 villages to flee their homes, abandoning their communities out of fear.

In response, hundreds of displaced villagers staged a protest along the major highway connecting Sokoto, Kebbi, and Niger states, demanding immediate government intervention.

Some of the victims lamented that neither the government nor security agencies have provided support so far, urging swift action to curb the crisis.

Both the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed receiving reports of displaced persons from the troubled area.
