Kano police bust car theft ring, seize 3 vehicles

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate operations across Kano, Kaduna, and Adamawa states.

Police spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the first case was reported on August 18, 2025, when a woman from Badawa Quarters said her 2011 Hyundai Elantra was stolen from outside a school in Nasarawa GRA, Kano. Following investigations, the vehicle was traced to Zaria, Kaduna State, and recovered on August 23.

In another operation on the same day, police patrol teams in Wudil intercepted a stolen sky-blue Siena bus with Bauchi registration number GAK 556. The swift response led to the arrest of 35-year-old Yunusa Muhammad, also known as “Yellow,” and 23-year-old Abdulwahab Bala, both from Bauchi State.

The police also disclosed that on August 5, 2025, a resident of Sabon Gari reported his 2006 Pontiac Vibe missing. Acting on a tip-off, the vehicle was later recovered in Adamawa State.

The statement added that the suspects will be charged in court after investigations are concluded, and the recovered vehicles will be returned to their owners.

Commending his officers, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the operations and urged residents to keep supporting the police by reporting suspicious activities. He also shared emergency hotlines for swift response.
