SDP Dissolves Imo Leadership, Names 17-Member Caretaker Committee
The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dissolved the Imo State Working Committee and replaced it with a 17-member Caretaker Committee that will run the affairs of the party for the next 90 days.
The decision, conveyed in a letter signed by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, followed reports of internal crises within the state chapter.
According to the directive, the new Caretaker Committee is tasked with reorganizing party operations, recruiting new members (with a focus on youths and women), holding regular meetings, strengthening SDP’s electoral prospects, and submitting monthly reports to both the National Vice Chairman (South-East) and the National Chairman.

The new team will be led by Engr. Augustine Okere as Acting Chairman, with Comrade Onyekachi Asonye as Acting Secretary. Others include Chief Raymond Egenti (Deputy Chairman), Comrade Chijioke Onuoha (Vice Chairman 1), Chief Innocent Ekejiu (Vice Chairman 2), Tony Duru (Vice Chairman 3), Don Ubah (Publicity Secretary), Shanahan Nnadi (Legal Adviser), Princess Ifeoma Bassey (Organizing Secretary), Obinna Oguneme (Youth Leader), and Amaka Osunde (Woman Leader).
Agunloye emphasized that the appointments take immediate effect, with the committee expected to stabilize and rebuild the party ahead of future elections.
Copies of the directive were also sent to INEC, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, the State Director of DSS, and the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission for record purposes.
