The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 Nigerians completed online pre-registration within the first seven hours of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began on Monday, 18th August 2025.
According to the Commission, the registration portal went live at 8:30 am, and by 3:30 pm, tens of thousands had signed up. Of the total, 33,803 (48.7%) were male and 35,573 (51.3%) female.
INEC further disclosed that young people between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for the majority, with 48,033 registrants (69.2%).
The online portal — https://cvr.inecnigeria.org — remains accessible 24 hours daily, according to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee.

Meanwhile, INEC confirmed that in-person registration will commence on Monday, 25th August 2025, at all 811 state and local government offices nationwide. The exercise will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays, allowing new registrants to sign up physically and enabling online applicants to complete the process.
The Commission emphasized that both online and in-person registration will run simultaneously for the entire CVR period. Weekly updates, including state-by-state and demographic breakdowns, will be published starting next week.
INEC also reminded citizens that only Nigerians 18 years and above who have never registered before are eligible to sign up. While transfers of voter records and replacement of lost or damaged cards are allowed, double or multiple registration remains a criminal offence.
