A youth organization in Plateau State, operating under the name Concerned Mushere Youth Vanguard (CMYV), has urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to fulfill his commitment of facilitating the safe return of displaced Mushere natives to their ancestral lands. The communities were sacked months ago by armed Fulani militias, forcing residents to flee.
Speaking at a press briefing in Jos on Saturday, CMYV leaders decried the continued suffering of their people, who are now stranded in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, while the attackers have taken over their homes and farmlands.
John Bitrus, chairman of the group, expressed frustration that despite the governor’s assurance that the displaced would soon be resettled, no concrete action has been taken. He identified the affected villages—Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif—all within Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos LGA. According to him, these communities were overrun by gunmen, leaving behind mass casualties and thousands of displaced residents.

“For more than four months now, our people have been scattered,” Bitrus said. “Some live in IDP camps, others are sheltering with relatives, yet their ancestral lands remain in the hands of Fulani invaders who have renamed our villages and converted our farmlands into grazing fields.”
He lamented that the attackers still roam freely, heavily armed, terrorizing locals and consolidating their hold on the seized communities. “They move around with guns, grazing cattle on farmlands that rightfully belong to our people, while the rightful owners wander about, homeless and hopeless,” he added.
The group therefore appealed to Governor Mutfwang, relevant authorities, and security agencies to act swiftly to reclaim their lands and restore hope to the displaced. “Our people’s situation is heartbreaking. We plead with the state government and security forces to rescue our communities and return us to our homes,” Bitrus emphasized.
