The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 12 people died and five others were injured in a lone accident that occurred early Friday morning in Kano State.
According to Sector Commander Muhammed Bature, the incident happened at around 2:40 a.m. in Samawa Village, Garun Malam Local Government Area, along the Zaria–Kano highway.
The crash involved a DAF CF95 trailer (registration number KMC 931 ZE) loaded with goods. The vehicle was carrying 19 passengers at the time—12 lost their lives, five sustained varying degrees of injuries, and two escaped unhurt.

Bature explained that the accident was caused by a mechanical failure when the trailer’s cab hook detached from its body, causing the driver to lose control.
“The deceased victims were evacuated to Nasarawa Hospital, while the injured were taken to Kura General Hospital for treatment,” he stated.
The sector commander advised motorists to avoid speeding, reckless driving, and other unsafe practices that put lives and property at risk.
