Ekiti Is Not Poor – PDP’s Peter Obafemi

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has challenged the long-standing portrayal of Ekiti State as financially deprived, calling it a “misconception” fueled by poor governance.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, Obafemi dismissed the popular narrative that the state survives on meagre resources, describing it as a convenient excuse used by past administrations to mask incompetence and underperformance.

He argued that several states in Nigeria and abroad operate with far fewer resources than Ekiti, yet achieve far greater developmental progress.

According to him, the state’s infrastructure and socio-economic growth do not reflect the substantial monthly federal allocations, internally generated revenue, World Bank-assisted programmes, and various international support funds it receives.

Obafemi urged Ekiti residents to demand accountability from their leaders, particularly as the next election approaches, stressing that the state’s underdevelopment stems from mismanagement of resources and a lack of innovative leadership.
