Bye-Elections: Skip Labour Party – Peter Obi Urges Supporters

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on his supporters to throw their weight behind African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the upcoming by-elections scheduled across several states.

Obi explained that the Labour Party would not be fielding any recognised candidates in the polls due to ongoing internal disputes, which have left the party’s nominations unacknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The by-elections, set for August 16, 2025, will be held in 16 states, with two senatorial seats, five House of Representatives seats, and nine state assembly seats up for grabs.

In a post on his official X account on Thursday, Obi urged members of the Obidient movement and the COPDEM group to mobilise in support of the ADC’s candidates.

“Because the Labour Party has no recognised candidates by INEC due to the internal crisis, I humbly urge every member of the Obidient and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states,” he wrote.
